Relationship Timeline Calculator

Calculate how long you have been together using a start date and a reference date, then add your own milestones. The timeline records dates and elapsed time; it does not predict relationship stages or tell you when a couple should marry.

Choose the date that means something to you

Couples define their start differently: a first date, a conversation about being exclusive, or another shared moment. Use the date you both want to remember. The reference date defaults to your local today, but you can choose another date to explore a past or future anniversary.

Optional display names personalize a keepsake without changing the calculation. Optional milestone rows let you record a first trip, engagement, wedding, or a small memory that matters to you. A meaningful timeline does not need to follow a conventional sequence.

Calendar duration and total days are different

Completed calendar years, months, and days follow anniversaries and month boundaries. Total days measure the distance between the selected civil dates. Complete weeks are total days divided into groups of seven, with the remaining days shown separately.

A 365-day landmark is not always an annual anniversary because leap years change calendar length. The tool keeps those labels separate. When the start and reference dates are the same, elapsed time is zero days. That convention measures time passed rather than numbering the first day as day one.

Month ends and leap-day anniversaries

When an anniversary calculation reaches a month without the original day number, the date is clamped to the last valid day of that month. This avoids producing an invalid February 31 or silently shifting a date into March. Calendar arithmetic must state this convention because other counters can use different rules.

For a February 29 start, the default annual anniversary in a non-leap year is February 28. You can choose a March 1 convention if that is how you celebrate. The result identifies the chosen policy. An anniversary falling on the reference date has a zero-day countdown and is shown as today.

A clear worked example

From January 1, 2026 to January 11, 2026, ten days have elapsed: one complete week and three additional days. The calendar duration is zero years, zero months, and ten days. The first annual anniversary is January 1, 2027.

Date-only arithmetic uses civil date components and normalized day values so a daylight-saving clock change does not add or remove a day. Hours and seconds are not presented as exact measurements because no time of day was supplied.

Build a timeline without turning it into a deadline

Add real events with their dates, and keep planned events visibly labeled. Events are sorted chronologically so you can review the story without entering everything in order. The reference date must be on or after the selected start date; earlier reference dates show a validation message rather than negative time together.

Copy the figures or print the timeline as a simple keepsake. Saving is optional and local to your browser; clear it when using a shared device. Only share a personalized image after reviewing its names and dates. The best milestone list reflects your memories, not somebody else’s schedule.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as our start date?

Use the shared date you want to commemorate. The calculator cannot choose that meaning for you.

Is the first day counted as one?

The default measures elapsed days, so the same start and reference date equals zero.

Is 365 days the same as one year?

Not always. Annual anniversaries follow calendar dates; leap years can contain 366 days.

How are February 29 anniversaries handled?

The default is February 28 in non-leap years, with an optional March 1 convention.

Does the timeline predict engagement or marriage?

No. It calculates date intervals and records events you enter.
